MINUTES OF BUSINESS MEETING

DELAWARE VALLEY MEDIEVAL ASSOCIATION

20 APRIL 2002

AT CENTENARY COLLEGE

Convened by Mark Darby, President 2001-2

Announcements:

            1. Membership dropped from 103 to 78 this year for various reasons.

140 people are on our e-mail list and 26 on ‘snail mail.’

2. Treasurer, Dorothy Shepard reports that, as of 3/31, we have $4,422.25 in the bank and $6478.16 in a CD.

3. The travel grant was awarded to Chara Armon to travel to Kalamazoo to give a paper entitled ‘Late Medieval Franciscans and the Making of St. Joseph.

4. Since a date had not been selected for the Program Committee Meeting it was decided to choose one by e-mail correspondence.

Discussion of causes of membership decline centered on the shift to e-mail announcements,

Sept. 11, and the anthrax scare.  It was decided to continue to use e-mail because our secretarial expenses were down by 2/3 but to be sure to do a good job with them.

Election of Vice-President/President-Elect: Rebecca Winer, by a unanimous vote.

The meeting ended with thanks to our retiring president, Mark Darby, and to our hosts at Centenary College for their wonderful hospitality.

Respectfully submitted,

Dorothy Shepard substituting for Elaine Beretz, Secretary
