Libraries for Medievalists in the Delaware Valley
This web page, sponsored by the
Delaware Valley Medieval Association,
presents a list of academic and other libraries in the Delaware Valley area
with materials of interest to medievalists. The list includes links to information on
library hours, access policies, collections, and online catalogs.
I would welcome comments and suggestions for libraries to be added to this list.

Two resources of invaluable help in locating medieval manuscripts in libraries are:
- Seymour De Ricci and W.J. Wilson. Census of Medieval and Renaissance Manuscripts
in the United States and Canada. 3 vols. New York: H.W. Wilson, 1935, 1940;
Christopher Faye and William H. Bond. Supplement to the Census of Medieval and Renaissance Manuscripts
in the United States and Canada. New York: H.W. Wilson, 1962.
- The essential guide to the medieval manuscripts in North American
collections. A project to update the De Ricci census online is underway: see
Union Manuscript
Computer Catalog.
- Jeanne E. Krochalis and Jean F. Preston. Finding Western Medieval Manuscripts in
North American Collections. Kalamazoo, Michigan: Medieval Institute Publications, 1988.
- This includes a very useful state-by-state list of manuscript catalogs, exhibition catalogs,
and brief descriptions of the mss in some smaller collections. Updates locations of some items
described in De Ricci.
