RICHARD KEARNEY, Professor of Philosophy at University College Dublin and
Boston College, will be making his third appearance at this conference. He will address
the question of Augustine and Paul Ricoeur. In addition to the exciting papers that he has
given he has been a genial moderator of the two "roundtables" on the gift,
between Marion and Derrida (1997) and on forgiveness with Derrida and the other speakers
(1999). His best known is The Wake ofImagination. But he has also
published recently, among other things, Poetics of Imagining, Postnationalist Ireland, and Poetics of Modernity. He is editor of Continental
Philosophy inthe Twentieth Century and co-editor of Questioning Ethics:
Contemporary Debates inPhilosophy and The Continental Philosophy Reader.
Richard Kearney is also a novelist--(Sam's Fall, 1994) and Walking at Sea
Level, 1997), a poet (Angel of Patrick'sHill, 1991), and a well
known Irish cultural critic.
