The current research is focusing on
comparing the two types of porous pavements. This is a
holistic study that will consider installation, durability, water quantity, and water
quality. Each pavement area is
highly instrumented and data is being recorded 24 hours a
day.
The durability of each surface is
being monitored quarterly for any signs of surface spalling
and clogging of void space. The current water quantity
data is focusing on the infiltration of each pavement system
(pavement and stone bed) for different storm events. For
the water quality testing we gather samples at several
locations (before entering the pavement, in the storage bed,
and in the soil under the beds) for all storms over 0.25 in.
Currently, we are testing the water samples for:
-
Temperature
-
pH
-
Total Suspended Solids (surface
samples only)
-
Total Dissolved Solids (surface
and subsurface)
-
Chlorides
-
Total N and total P
-
Particulate metals: Pb, Cu, Cd, Zn
-
Polyaromatic Hydrocarbons
