    The Villanova Cellular Biomechanics and Sports Science Laboratory (CBMSS) is focused on experimental, theoretical, and numerical studies of multi-scale transport phenomena: from cellular biomechanics, to lift mechanics of skiing or snowboarding, to fluid dynamics especially porous media flow. Much of our work grew out of recent discoveries of the endothelial glycocalyx that lines our blood vessels and its vital roles in microcirculation.

    The fundamental insights gleaned from the motion of red cells gliding on the glycocalyx and humans snowboarding on fresh snow powder have motivated the design of next generation super lubrication facilities.

    The CBMSS is located in Room 205 and 206 of the Old Chemical Engineering Building on Villanova University's campus. It opened its doors on January 12th, 2008. This laboratory is part of the Villanova College of Engineering's commitment to continuing research in the most cutting-edge fields. The laboratory has major facilities for cellular mechanics research such as a laminar fume hood, incubator, flow chamber system, etc. It also has dynamic compaction of soft porous media apparatus and permeability measurement facilities for fluid dynamics and sports science study.

    The group consists of graduate and undergraduate research assistants from varying engineering disciplines at Villanova University, headed by Dr. Qianhong Wu. Dr. Wu is in collaboration with Dr. Rungun Nathan from Penn State Berks, Dr. Liyun Wang from the University of Delaware, Dr. Lidan You from the University of Toronto, Dr. Li-zhu Wu from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr. Qingjie Sun from Communication University of China, Drs.
