While there are a significant number of full time, non-tenure track faculty at Villanova, there is no designated representation of this group within university governance.  The Faculty Congress asked Professors Bernard G Prusak and and Sally Scholz to propose changes in the Faculty Congress constitution that would help remedy this.  Their proposal was unanimously approved by the Faculty Congress. For an amendment in that constitution to take effect, it will need to be approved by the majority of faculty voting in a special referendum. This will be organized shortly.

The amendment would give this category of faculty two  designated representatives on the Congress and a process for electing them.

Proposed amendments to the Faculty Congress Constitution regarding representation of full-time, non-tenure track faculty are to the right:

Under “MEMBERSHIP OF FACULTY CONGRESS,” (1) revise the third sentence of the first paragraph from

The Congress consists of a maximum of forty members as follows

to

The Congress consists of a maximum of forty-two members as follows.

(2) Add to this list:

2 full-time non-tenure track faculty

Also under “MEMBERSHIP,” (3) add after the first sentence of the third paragraph:

Full-time non-tenure track faculty will gather as needed in the Spring term to select their representatives, with terms of office beginning May 1.

(4) Revise the second sentence of the third paragraph from

The minimum qualifications for the members shall be the rank of assistant professor, and three years of service to the University

to

The minimum qualifications for tenure-track members shall be the rank of assistant professor, and three years of service to the University.

(5) Add after the preceding sentence the following:

The minimum qualification for full-time non-tenure track members shall be one year of service to the University.

Under “AMENDMENTS,” (6) revise the second sentence from

Ratification of any amendment requires approval by at least two-thirds of the entire membership of the Faculty Congress followed by approval in a referendum of at least two-thirds of the ballots cast by all full-time faculty, and those adjuncts who have completed at least five years teaching at Villanova

to
