Sridhar Santhanam is a Professor in the mechanical
engineering department at Villanova University. He obtained
his bachelors degree in mechanical engineering in 1984 from
the Indian Institute of Technology in Chennai, India. In the
fall of 1984, he entered the graduate program at Arizona
State University (ASU), in Tempe, Arizona. At ASU, he
obtained an M.S. in mechanical engineering in 1986 followed
by a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering in May, 1989. He
started as an Assistant Professor in the mechanical
engineering department at Villanova University in August,
1989.
Prof. Santhanam serves as the Director of the College of
Engineering High Resolution Microscopy (HRM) Laboratory in
CEER 004. This facility houses several instruments including
a Hitachi S-4800 high resolution SEM and an Agilent AFM.
Prof. Santhanam’s primary research interests are in the
mechanical engineering sub-disciplines of solid mechanics,
materials, and manufacturing. He has engaged in several
research projects on these topics in recent years, with
several funded by external research grants.
Dr. Santhanam teaches a variety of courses at the
undergraduate and graduate levels. Undergarduate courses he
has taught recently include Solid Mechanics and Design, and
Introduction to Engineering. Graduate courses include
Introduction to Finite Elements, Continuum Mechanics, and
Elasticity.
