The Journal of Catholic Social Thought was founded in the Fall of 2003 in support of a call by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to "integrate and to share the riches of the Church's social teaching in Catholic education and formation at every level."  It is published by the Office for Mission Effectiveness and the Villanova University School of Law, at Villanova University.

The Journal has recently been accepted for indexing in Sociological Abstracts and is also indexed in the Catholic Periodical and Literature Index.

Early Praise for the Journal of Catholic Social Thought

“The journal is a well-balanced, thought-provoking resource for those interested in what Catholic thinkers are saying about current issues in light of the Church’s social teaching.”

Archbishop Celestino Migliore, Apostolic Nuncio,
Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations

“Given the riches and constant development of Catholic social thought, a scholarly journal focused on this growing treasury of gospel-inspired human wisdom is long overdue.  Villanova University is rendering a signal service to the Church and society with this publication.”

Monika Hellwig, Past President,
Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities

“The Journal of Catholic Social Thought is the most impressive new journal in the field today.  It will quickly become a resource that no serious student of the tradition can afford to miss.”

Robert G. Kennedy, Ph.D., Director of the Institute of Christian Social Thought and Management, University of St. Thomas (MN)

“The journal provides a needed forum where the rich tradition of Catholic social teaching and practice can be discussed in a rigorous and nuanced way.”

Rev. Mark Cregan, CSC, President, Stonehill College
"This journal will be of great interest to faculty engaged in research in the area of Law & Religion."

Frank S. Ravitch, J.D., Michigan State School of Law and Co-chair of the Association of American Law School's Section on Law & Religion
