Guidelines for Authors

   


Solicited Manuscripts

Invited papers, presented at the annual conference on Catholic Social Teaching at Villanova University, are solicited with a first right of refusal for publication in the Journal of Catholic Social Thought

  • Format according to the MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing (1998) or the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (1999). For sample citations, click here.

  • Number all pages.

  • Double space throughout.

  • Indent each paragraph.

  • Do not include headers or footers.

  • Type titles of paragraph or sections in ALL CAPITALS.

  • When referring to the phrase Catholic social teaching or Catholic social thought, capitalize only the word Catholic, unless the phrase is used in a title, in which case all words are to be capitalized.

  • When referring papal encyclicals, capitalize the title as you would any title, (i.e. Pacem in Terris, Laborem Exercens, Sollicitudo Rei Socialis.)

  • Place footnotes at the bottom of the pages on which citations occur.

  • When footnoting papal encyclicals, only the author, year of publication, and paragraph number need be included.

  • Scripture citations need not be footnoted, but should be referenced in the body of the text and enclosed in parentheses i.e. (Mt. 8: 6-12).

  • Include a 100 to 150 word abstract.

  • Provide one paper copy of the manuscript.

  • Submit an electronic file in Microsoft Word (doc.) format.

  • Submissions may be made by regular or electronic mail.

Unsolicited Manuscripts

Unsolicited manuscripts may be submitted to the Journal of Catholic Social Thought.  Unsolicited manuscripts are subject to blind review by the Editorial Board. 

All unsolicited manuscripts must be submitted in the following format:

Upon Review

  • The Editorial Board will inform authors of its decisions in writing. 

  • Manuscripts accepted for publication must be resubmitted with revisions as electronic files in Microsoft (doc) Word format.

  • Accepted manuscripts may be submitted by regular or electronic mail.
