Founded in 1981, the Greater Philadelphia Food Bank maintains the mission to solicit, collect, store, and distribute surplus food to organizations that care for the needy throughout southeastern Pennsylvania. Since the organization began, it has distributed more than 140 million pounds of donated food to charities that feed needy families. As a central clearinghouse for food, every day the Food Bank distributes sixteen tons of food among almost 800 non-profit organizations in order to help fight hunger. Nearly 400,000 low income and poor families are served each year in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties through the Food Bank.

This opportunity may be of special interest to large groups of volunteers or anyone interested in learning about the problem of hunger in our region.
