The Vanguard School, founded in 1959, is a state licensed and approved, private, not-for-profit day school serving 52 school districts in Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties. Students are three through twenty-one years of age and have been diagnosed with Serious Emotional Disturbance, Autism, Neurological Impairment or have Aspergers Syndrome and/or Developmental Delays. Included are children with secondary diagnoses of Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorders, Anxiety, Depression, Phobias and Oppositional Disorders. The school offers traditional academic programs, life skills, as well as vocationally oriented classes developed for the students’ transition after graduation. All programs “are individualized and dynamic, changing to meet the students’ needs”

Volunteer opportunities may be of particular interest to Education majors, Psychology majors and Human Services majors.
